63470 Agar-agar Gel-forming extract from certain seaweeds (Gelidium, Gracilaria and other red algae). 

Agar-agar is insoluble in cold water. In hot water, a 1% solution forms a solid gel. 

Agar-agar is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In bacteriology, agar-agar is used instead of gelatin to produce nutrient media for bacterial cultures.

The main supplier is Japan, but production has recently started in Norway, the USA, Chile and England.
