CWA Cold Wax Book

CWA Cold Wax Book

Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts & Conversations. More than just a technical guide, this 320-page, fully illustrated book provides comprehensive information for those who are new to cold wax, as well as technical expertise and inspiration to those already using the medium. The authors' advice and experience--along with the work and words of over 100 artists from around the world--will strengthen your work and studio practice, suggest exciting new directions, and support thoughtful self-critique. Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin feel strongly that the "why" of using cold wax medium is as important as the “how.” Many of the artists whose work appears in the book speak about collaboration, process, and experimentation. The authors include their own thoughts about these topics, and more. And because readers also want clear information and direction for working with cold wax, large sections of the book are devoted to important practical information, including:  materials, detailed lists of supplies, studio setup, illustrated how-to sections, and in-depth discussion of procedures. Full color photographs of artwork from more than 100 artists around the world, including abstract images, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and work that combines cold wax with sculpture, collage, encaustic, printmaking, and other media. In-depth information on choosing materials and tools, setting up a safe and functional studio, making cold wax medium, and more. Illustrated techniques for combining cold wax medium with oils, dry pigments, and other materials to create a wide range of effects. Techniques and insights into the creative process contributed by over 40 artists. Advice for building visual vocabulary, aligning form and content, finding personal voice, and practicing self-critique. Overview of the history of cold wax in art. Buch "Idee Farbe Farbsysteme in Kunst und Wissenschaft"

Product information "Book "Idea Color Color Systems in Art and Science"" "Idea Color" "Color and system, two terms that could not be more contradictory in general thinking. However, we overlook the fact that man, in his quest to understand the world, is indispensably dependent on a systematization of phenomena. And what is color other than a phenomenal appearance of nature to which we are exposed every moment, every day, even in dreams. Here, then, the light and its shadows, there the matter, the material with which we create a colorful counter-world, the image - and, if we are lucky, the work of art." From the foreword by Barbara Diethelm Expanded and revised edition: 2003 Authors: Klaus Stromer (editor), Ernst Peter Fischer, Narcisco Silvestrini 144 pages with 47 illustrations, 42 of which are in color Color systems in art and science from Forsius to Sirius.

Buch SEHEN / Uwe Kowski

Buch SEHEN / Uwe Kowski

sehenFrom the announcement of the exhibition at the Kunsthalle Rostock: The Kunsthalle Rostock is pleased to announce with the exhibition a comprehensive retrospective of the painter Uwe Kowski with works from the past ten years.Uwe Kowski (born 1963 in Leipzig) is a painter through and through. After an apprenticeship as a sign painter, he studied from 1984-89 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. The images, which seem abstract at first glance, are always influenced by what surrounds us every day, our social and political existence. The paintings arise from intuitive pictorial and compositional ideas that surprise again and again with new forms, color tones and handwriting. The exhibition Uwe Kowski – see brings together works from the years 2010-2019. The experience of painting, which the artist makes his own task, could be transferred to the viewer as an experience of seeing. Uwe Kowski does not want to capture or document a story with his paintings, the most important message is the painting itself.
